The ‘twist’ issue made us a little nervous and was a bit of an annoyance to figure out how to measure well. But in the end we concluded we had no significant twist and proceeded to rivet the skins for real.

The use of the edge forming tool was another speed bump for us. Tests on small samples of aluminum didn’t quite make us experts and the line between too little pressure and too much was very thin. Ended up with a crease in a small section, which caused us to get out hammers and wood blocks to minimize. Also took some time to get some advice from other experts on the field, but after ace aircraft fabricators John and Bill weighed in, we stopped worrying and got back to riveting.

There was some debate over whether/when to chop off the little tabbed ‘ears’ at the edge of some of the sheet metal skins. We decided to wait, since the instructions made no mention of it, but admit we will likely regret that decision later.

At the end of the day, we had our second airplane part! We elected to NOT attach the rudder to the vertical stab until we decide on painting, so now there are TWO parts on the shelf. 🙂
